V8 Swap
« on: November 06, 2008, 01:57:48 PM »
I've seen lots of people swaps sbc 350's into their S10's. Anyone here running something like this? If i had a Dezert S10, I'd have to rock the small block 350.

The 4.3 is pretty much a v8, do some minor things to it and it will perform close to a v8 and cost way less then doing a full swap, check this out....

A twin turbo 4.3 will cost you shit load more than a v-8 swap. I'd say find a 350 or an ls series engine out of a wreck full size or camaro and go to town. A supercharger kit new costs at least $2100 on a good day. Noone makes a turbo kit for the 4.3, nevermind a twin turbo. You'll never get enough fuel with the stock intake manifold set up since it uses gay poppet injectors. If you want to make any real power you need a custom intake manifold (most people slice up an edelbrock 2114 and machine it for fuel rails), new injectors, plumbing, a better pump, a different throttle body or an adapter, and then you have to test and tune for a long time. I know people who spent $1400 on JUST THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. That doesn't include the supercharger or powercharger. I've seen dressed V-8's on craigslist for 1000. You can reuse the transmission you've already got (although I'd build it up a little). If you want V-8 power, get a V-8.

Wrong.

They turbo the 2.2 liter engine. And nothing else.

Turboing the 4.3 is possible, but it has to be a custom job. Check out s10planet or s10forum so see people who have done it. There aren't that many. Everything I've said in the above post still applies.
